Semi-retired from a 40-year career as a psychiatrist, Patricia Lynn Hough currently serves with St. Francis Animal Rescue in Venice, Florida, as a staff supervisor. Her work at the no-kill shelter involves overseeing volunteers and the adoption process. Patricia Lynn Hough engages closely with the on-staff veterinarian in providing needed drugs and medical services to animals brought into the shelter.

Dr. Hough previously spent four years as a senior physician with the Sarasota County Department of Health, where she coordinated the provision of psychiatric services through county clinics to patients who were uninsured and underserved. Her responsibilities involved close communication with a range of community medical facilities and social service providers.

During this time, she also directed projects for the nonprofit group Proyecto Salud y Vida and guided health-focused initiatives throughout Central America and the western Caribbean region. The project’s mission was to create grant-funded rural health clinics, supply medications and medical care, and to refurbish hospitals in need of basic equipment. Dr. Hough has plans to travel to Africa in the fall of 2016 in a volunteer capacity.
